Warm, soft, and fluffy, this easy naan recipe makes naan in just minutes using no yeast!
There is nothing like freshly baked bread, or in this case, naan. Naan is the perfect accompaniment to saucy dishes like curry and stews. It’s also a great option to use as a wrap for a sandwich. You can take it even a step further and make naan pizza by adding some marinara sauce and cheese and letting it broil for just a few minutes in a toaster oven until the cheese melts.
However you decide to use this easy naan recipe, it is guaranteed to be the simplest method to making naan. That’s because baking powder is used in place of the yeast, which means that there’s no need to activate the yeast by proofing it and there’s no need to allow the dough to rise. Simply make the dough and cook in a pan, that’s it!
This post is about how to make an easy naan recipe.
To make this recipe, you will need:
I lay out each group of steps for you below but the process really only takes minutes to complete from beginning to end. Let’s get started.
First, put all of the dry ingredients in a big bowl. Next, we’ll add the wet ingredients: add the yogurt and oil and stir with a wooden spoon, then add the water and continue stirring. Once the dough is scraggly and too stiff to continue mixing with a wooden spoon, use your hand to mash the dough into a cohesive ball shape.
Next, transfer the dough ball onto a floured surface. Cut it into 6 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball with your hands.
Then, lay parchment paper down and put one ball on top. Flatten the ball by pressing it down with your fingers. Flour a rolling pin then roll out the dough until it is about 6 inches.
If you have a cast-iron skillet, I suggest you use it. Lightly grease it by adding some oil and rubbing it on the base using a paper towel – we are just aiming for a nonstick surface.
Heat the skillet on medium to medium-high heat until it is hot (it may smoke a little). Place the flattened naan in the pan. Cook the one side for about 2-3 minutes and watch as little bubbles or blisters form in the bread. Flip and allow the other side to cook for about 2 minutes.
I like to roll out the next dough ball while the first naan is cooking. Depending on how hot your pan is, it may take less time to cook.
Melt butter in a bowl in the microwave or stovetop and brush it on the hot naan.
Serve it fresh and warm, it tastes the best this way! Therefore, be sure to make these as soon as you are ready to eat or serve them!
Consider garnishing the naan with freshly chopped parsley or cilantro.
