How do I make beef crockpot stew?

As with any great beef stew recipe, there are essential steps that must be done before you dump all the ingredients into the crockpot, set it, and forget it. These steps deepen the flavors of the stew and ensure the results are delicious.

So let’s get started!

First, wash, peel and chop the vegetables.

Dice the onion, mince the garlic, and cut the carrots and potatoes into 2-inch pieces.

These next steps are essential to developing a deep flavor in the stew.

Heat up a large skillet on the stovetop on medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil.

Add the beef chunks in batches and sear the meat until it is browned on all sides. This step is essential to making a delicious beef stew so don’t skip it!

Brown the meat in 2-3 batches to ensure the pot is not overcrowded. This way, the meat is seared versus steamed.

Sear each batch and transfer the batches to the crockpot.

I love a good crockpot recipe and this one is a keeper! I’ve tried making beef stew in a crockpot before but it did not come out anything like this recipe did. Thank you for the suggestions to brown the meat to elevate the flavors in the stew. I served this stew with dinner rolls and my whole family loved it!
