If you’ve never made fresh whipped cream at home before, you’re in for a treat! I am not kidding when I say you can have a totally delicious, fluffy, and smooth whipped cream in under 5 minutes with just 2 ingredients. And believe me, you won’t miss store-bought whipped cream once you make this version!

This recipe makes about 4 cups of whipped cream which is great for a pie or topping, or to be frozen and used later, but I’ve also cut this recipe down to a quarter and used an immersion blender with a hand whip to make a quick whipped cream to scoop on lattes like this Pumpkin Chai Latte. Honestly, it can be added to just about any dessert for a next-level yum, like this Super Easy Apple Crisp Recipe.

If you have an electric mixer, consider using it. Otherwise, you can use a handheld mixer.

  2. Add the cold heavy whipping cream to the mixing bowl.
  3. Add the powdered sugar to the mixing bowl. Add the vanilla extract here, if desired.
  4. Lower and lock the mixer.

Start the mixer on low and whisk to blend the ingredients. After a few seconds, increase the mixer to high and watch carefully. The ingredients will whip together in about 1-2 minutes to create whipped cream. That’s why I suggest that you do not walk away from the mixer and stay attentive to see it transform into whipped cream. It happens in a matter of seconds!

Once you see the texture change, turn it off. You know the whipped cream is done when it attaches to the whisk or forms stiff peaks. If you over-mix it, it will essentially turn into butter so you definitely do not want to over-mix it.

If you are worried about over-mixing, you can stop the mixer and check the texture periodically and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.

This is what you can expect to see once you’ve reached the correct whipped consistency and you know you’re done mixing:
