Although lettuce is not traditionally used, this greek salad with lettuce adds crispness without taking away from the authentic, tangy, and savory flavors of a true greek salad.
This salad has all of the flavors you expect from a traditional greek salad, but it is set on a bed of romaine lettuce.
Although authentic versions look a little different (for instance, they comprise of big chunks of the ingredients and are typically served with a block of feta cheese, instead of crumbled cheese) the essence and flavor of a true greek salad is still here.
This refreshing variation was served at the Mediterranean restaurant I worked at back in college. I wasn’t aware that traditional greek salad didn’t include lettuce but I grew to really enjoy this spin on the famous Mediterranean dish.
This post is about how to make a greek salad with lettuce.
To make this salad, you will need:
For the greek salad dressing, you will need:
Gather all of the ingredients. Wash and chop the lettuce. Wash and slice the tomatoes and cucumbers.
Place the chopped romaine lettuce in a salad bowl. Add the tomato and cucumber slices. Sprinkle the feta cheese on top. Add the kalamata olives and a generous sprinkle of oregano and black pepper.
Authentic greek dressing is actually quite simplistic and is used to accentuate the natural flavors of the ingredients.
To make the dressing, whisk together all of the ingredients except for the olive oil in a small bowl. Then, slowly add the olive oil while continuously whisking to emulsify the vinaigrette.
Alternatively, you can put all of the vinaigrette ingredients in a jar and shake vigorously until the ingredients are combined.
Drizzle it atop the salad.
Serve immediately once the dressing is on the salad.
