This pasta sauce with crushed tomatoes is so easy to make, it will have you wondering why you ever bought jarred pasta sauce in the first place!
This pasta sauce with crushed tomatoes is perfect for any pasta dish you plan to make.
You will be surprised to see just how easily you can transform a can of crushed tomatoes into a delicious, versatile pasta sauce.
This post is about how to make an easy and tasty pasta sauce with crushed tomatoes.
There are many ways to make pasta sauce, but I have found that this way is truly the simplest method that does not compromise on flavor. Let’s get right into it!
To make this easy pasta sauce recipe, you will need:
Firstly, peel and dice the onion and mince the garlic.
In a large saucepan on medium-high heat, add the oil and saute the onion until it is translucent (about 7 minutes). Stir in the garlic and saute for just a minute to bring out its aroma.
Add the basil, salt and sugar and stir.
Then add the butter and melt.
Next, add the can of crushed tomatoes and the water and lower the heat to medium-low/low and let it simmer.
Let it simmer with the lid on for at least 10 minutes. You can let it simmer for up to an hour on low.
The longer it simmers, the longer time the sauce has to meld the flavors together. But, if you are in a pinch for time, the 10-minute mark still tastes great!
This easy pasta sauce recipe gives you a slightly chunky sauce with texture. If you prefer a smooth textured pasta sauce, simply use a blender or hand blender to puree the sauce to your desired consistency.
Additionally, you may add small amounts of water to thin out the sauce if it is too thick for you. If you do this, check on the flavor and adjust it with salt and pepper.
Use this pasta sauce in any dish that requires it!
It tastes great in pasta, eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan or lasagna like THE ULTIMATE SIMPLE LASAGNA RECIPE

I never thought to make my own pasta sauce until I ran out of jarred sauce and needed to make do with what I had at home. Luckily I had a jar of crushed tomatoes and that’s where your recipe came in so handy. I followed the steps and, wow, I made my own pasta sauce! I used it in a vegetarian lasagna and it tasted even better than the jarred stuff. It’s a keeper!
