Ingredients
Naan
1 ½cupsflour
½cupplain yogurtfull fat
2teaspoonsbaking powder
⅓teaspoonsalt
1tablespoonoil
¼cupwater
Garlic Spread
3tablespoonsbuttermelted
2clovesgarlicminced
1teaspoonfresh cilantro or parsleyfinely chopped
Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the yogurt and oil and mix all together with a wooden spoon. Add the water and continue mixing with the spoon.
Once you can no longer mix with the spoon, use your hand to mash the dough into a cohesive (fairly sticky) ball.Transfer the ball to a floured surface and divide the dough ball into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball with your hands.
Lay parchment paper down and put one ball on top. Flatten the ball by pressing it down with your fingers. Flour a rolling pin then roll out the dough until it's about 6 inches.
If you have a cast-iron skillet, I suggest you use it. Lightly grease it by adding some oil and rubbing it on the base using a piece of paper towel - just aim for a non-stick surface.
Heat the skillet on medium to medium-high heat until it is hot (it may smoke a little). Place the flattened naan in the pan.Cook the one side for about 2-3 minutes and watch as little bubbles or blisters form in the bread. Flip and allow the other side to cook for about 2 minutes. I like to roll out the next dough ball while the first naan is cooking. Depending on how hot your pan is, it may take less time to cook.
Melt butter in a bowl in the microwave or stovetop. Stir in the minced garlic and cilantro/parsley with the butter and brush it on the hot naan. Serve it fresh and warm, it tastes the best this way! Therefore, be sure to make these as soon as you are ready to eat or serve them! Enjoy!
Notes
These can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week. They can also be frozen, thawed, and warmed up in a toaster oven.
